Thanks to the Alabama Department of Education, Oak Mountain was awarded a Learn and Serve grant to
work with the students on the concept of Service Learning.
In the past six months,
OMMS students with teacher and volunteer help from the school and community, have planted a large garden, built and maintained
coldframes and will have a greenhouse installed soon.
The AGITC and Alabama Urban Forestry
Association have helped with instruction and donated materials and are also developing a tree growing area to supply trees
for Habitat for Humanity homes and public schools.
