Obtaining a Commercial Pesticide Applicator's License in Alabama:

1. Decide what category you will need for the type of work you will be doing.

Go to the ACES website to see a listing of categories, suggested study materials, required exams, and exam fees.

2. Obtain and use study materials and / or attend a study class.

3. While preparing for the exam, begin process to sign-up for the computerized exam(s).

  1. Click here to go to the ADAI Computerized Exam Site to go to the sign-up site. 
  2. Next, you will click on the 'Okay, Let's get Started' button, create an account, and after entering your contact information, the testing company will email you a link with a Login ID and Password.  Please make a note or print the login information. 
  3. Log back into the site with your new login ID and complete the application process and include your work experience
  4. The ADAI will evaluate your experience to determine your eligibility to sit for the exam of the category for which you are applying. 
  5. Upon approval by the ADAI, the testing company (Metro Institue) will contact you via the email address you provided to schedule the exam at one of the eight testing locations across the state of Alabama.
  6. Schedule the exam for a time and location as shown on the Metro Institute Exam Scheduling Site.
  7. Arrive at the Exam Site on the scheduled date and time following any instructions provided by Metro Institute.
  8. Once proctored in, you will take the exam
  9. Receive your results instantly once you complete the exam!
  10. If you need to re-take an exam, you will be required to wait 10 days before the exam can be rescheduled through Metro Institute.

4. Once you pass the needed exam(s), fill our the appropriate license application and return with the correct license payment.

5. Once licensed, add your license to your company's Professional Services Permit. If you are self-employed, you may need to purchase a Professional Services permit.
